About Us.......
The Play Board began as a group of concerned parents, quickly added core individuals and rallied the people to create a strong, united voice on the need for play. The Kaboom.org project has been a big splash in Shirley; one that is still rippling through our community shouting out the need to come together in the name of play! We are bringing together educators (who made our Day of Play flag), local businesses (who donated goods and services for our Trail run) and our local American Legion Post 183 (who regularly support children's activities). The Benjamin Hill Park volunteers (who revived an old 100ft ski slope for tubing, and built a new pool house for our community pool) and the Skaters of Shirley are now aware of our mission and willing to work together to advance our unified agenda of creating more green play spaces. We have begun to collaborate with our school's Health and Wellness coordinator to broaden our mission. The ripple of conversation doesn't stop there, it reaches beyond- to a grandparent out raking with a grandchild, and to a group of tired Mom's walking at 5 am. The collaboration that town government is witnessing through our local Play Board has spurred the public sector to action. Rest assured, Shirley is thoroughly engaged by Kaboom.org.
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing........
